The world of News is split into thousands of individual Newsgroups, covering a huge range of topics. Any number of these Newsgroups can be joined (or 'subscribed to') and messages can be written to the group. This message (or 'posting') can then be read by anyone else who has subscribed to that group. Similarly, you will be able to see what other people have written and reply if you want to, or post a brand new message in the group.
