| What it is |
Gamespy is an application you can use to browse online games servers. You can use it to find servers for most First Person Shooter (FPS) games ‚ like Quake, Halflife, Sin etc. When you find a server you'd like to play a game on you simply click on the server listing in Gamespy and if you have that game installed it launches and connects you to the server. The reason Gamespy is so popular is that it enables you to check your connection to a server before you connect ‚ so you need only join the servers that you know you will get the fastest, smoothest game on. You can also see who is playing on a particular server before you join it. Gamespy is shareware and should be registered if you use it regularly.

After installing Gamespy you are asked to configure it. It will ask you to identify which games that it supports you have installed, and to locate the game .exe on your hard disk. Once you have set this up once you need never do it again. Connect to EidosNet and launch Gamespy. By clicking on the tabs on the left of the screen and hitting the refresh button you can get Gamespy to load into memory all the servers that are currently registered with the Gamespy Master Servers. This listing is current and enables you to see who is on which server at that moment. The "ping" is the speed at which you will connect to that server ‚ the lower the number the better.
