mIRC is a communication tool much like ICQ, but instead of maintaining a private list of contacts who you can chat with it serves as a window onto a global network of "Internet Relay Chat" (IRC) servers. Many games are represented online in IRC channels ‚ and an IRC channel can often be a good place to find players from around the world who are interested in the same games that you are. Although EidosNet does not run its own chat server, EidosNet users can use the Easynet IRC server. Details are included below. mIRC is shareware ‚ so if you use it a lot you are encouraged to register it.

When you install and launch mIRC you will be asked to select an IRC server to connect to. You can choose one from the list provided ‚ although most of these are based in the US so will not be the best place to find European gamers. Your best bet is to type in the name of the Easynet IRC server (irc.easynet.net) or to venture onto QuakeNet ‚ an IRC network populated by players of online games. A good QuakeNet IRC server to try is "irc.uk.quakenet.eu.org". When you have logged onto an IRC server you will need to join a "channel". On QuakeNet try "quake.uk" or "quake2.uk". Or just try typing the name of the game you are interested in.
