Producing a web page is easy. You have the web space just waiting to be used. There are four steps to putting a site up, and we'll lead you through them.

1. Choose your topic.
As you can imagine, the Internet has web sites on just about every subject, so it's a good idea to make it as interesting as possible. As far as we're concerned, we don't mind what you put up as long as it's in "good taste" and doesn't break the law; a site breaking those two rules will be terminated by the Webmaster. Check our web terms and conditions if you are in doubt about anything you intend to publish on your EidosNet webspace.

2. Write your page.
The language web pages are written in is called Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML). Don't worry, that probably sounds a lot worse than it really is. The easy way to create a web page is to use an HTML editor. These let you choose where you would like the words and pictures to be displayed and it then writes the HTML code for you. Alternatively you can learn how to write the HTML code yourself. (That isn't as hard as it might seem, there are lots of books and online tutorials to help you along the way).

3. Upload your webpages
and any associated images to our webserver using File Transfer Protocol (FTP). Doing this displays the web pages on the Web. The FTP clients that EidosNet support are: WS-FTP (PC) and Fetch (Mac). These are both good, solid applications that will do everything you need them to. By clicking on these links you'll be guided through the process of uploading your pages. The URL of your pages will be: http://pages.eidosnet.co.uk/~username/

4. Submitting your site.
Having the best site in the world is of very little use if no-one else ever looks at it. The final stage for many people who aren't content with just their friends and family seeing their site is to submit their site to various search engines in order that their site is included in the index of sites that they hold in their databases; despite popular belief, they pick up very few from just randomly trawling the Internet for new sites.
